Reiki

History:

Reiki is an ancient form of alternative healing.  The founder of Reiki as we know it today, was Dr. Mikao Usui, who lived in Japan from 1865-1926.  He was born into a family that studied Zen Buddhism and he was the eleventh generation of his ancestors to study Zen Buddhism.  He studied for many years during his studies that he came across ancient texts knowns as the Sutras, that revealed an ancient form of hands-on healing.  The Sutras revealed many secrets including symbols and instruction of how to perform the healings.  However, he did not begin using the technique because he felt he lacked the experience needed.

Dr. Usui wanted to know more about this ancient healing system and he decided to travel to Mt. Kurama in Japan where he fasted and meditated for 21 days until in a vision he saw the same symbols from the Sutras during his studies.  The symbols were revealed to him when a ray of light hit him on his Third Eye or Brow Chakra knocking him down and unconscious.  When he awoke and began to make his way down the mountain he stumbled and cut his foot.  As if my second nature he used Reiki on himself and experienced great relief.  He began to use Reiki on people who were sufferings in one way or another and found that he was getting amazing results.

He believed that by tapping into the energy of the Universal Life Force that anyone could be healed.  It is thought that he taught over 2000 students, teaching until the end of his life.  He wanted as many people as possible to learn and use the healing modality because he believed it could heal the world.  Although the Japanese word "Reiki" preceded him, Reiki Ryoho or "The System of Reiki" all originates with him.

What is Reiki and how it works:

A trained Reiki practioner will use a system of tapping into the Universal Life Force energy in order to send this energy to the client to bring about a sense of relaxation and overall sense of well-being.  Reiki works with the energetic, physical, and emotional aspects of the individual to address imbalances on all levels.  Because we are all energy we there are times where energy gets stagnant and blocked.  Reiki can clear these blocks to bring about clarity, healing, and positive change.

What others have said about getting a Reiki Treatment:

"I felt more relaxed and my joints felt more clear."  Sarah M.

"I was able to have an extremely healing meditation-visualization and felt more calm overall."  Pat J

In fact, before I became a Reiki practioner, I had some amazing results from receiving Reiki energy work. Just one example, 22 years ago I was diagnosed with tumors on one of my ovaries.  I was told that they would need to be surgically removed.  After several weeks of energy work, I arrived at the hospital to have the surgery and they performed an ultrasound before the surgery and apparently the tumors were miraculously gone.  Thanks to Reiki, I was able to escape an invasive surgery.

Outline of a Reiki healing session:

You will be asked to fill out a confidential client history form that will assist your practioner in knowing the specific areas that you would like focus on for the most positive and transformative changes.  As with any energy work, sessions can vary depending on the practioner.  A Reiki session can last anywhere from 15-45 minutes.  Some people call Reiki "hands-on" healing, so some practioners will place their hands at specific points to deliver the energy while performing the session.  Others will simply allow the hands to hover over the body while delivering the energy work.  In fact, distance healing or distant reiki is performed without the person present.  A time is agreed upon and with some brief instruction the Reiki practioner will focus their attention on the client to perform the session.  I have had amazing results with distance healing Reiki as the client and the practioner.

Whether in person or from a distance, sessions are normally performed with the recipient lying down on their back, or sitting comfortably in a chair, fully clothed, with eyes closed.  I give my clients the choice of having silence or music unless we are in a setting where there is a lot going on with sights and sounds, in that case, I like to use music in my sessions.  I use noise cancelling headphones so the client can completely relax into the session without distraction.
