Letting Go of the Old-Making Room for the New

by Saundra Berry, C.Ht.

I want to start by saying how grateful I am to have been blessed with a wonderful family, many friends, and the new friendships and partnerships that have been forged this last year. I want to thank my clients for being amazing and I appreciate each of you so very much. In 2013, I finished my book, “Healing at the Vortex” that will be released in early 2014, which was a great blessing, and joy to write. I have met and gained the support of many new people from all around the world, through my website and writing my blogs, for which I am truly thankful for! I want to wish each of you a very Happy New Year, filled with joy, abundance, success, grace, peace, and love. Thank you for your continued support and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

So, what kind of year was 2013 for you? If you are like many, the year had its up and downs, but all in all, it was a good year, and we survived! As 2013 is winding down, it is time to accept what has been and let go of those people, places, and things that no longer serve our highest good. It is time to close the book on 2013 and begin anew in 2014!

Last year, a dear friend shared a lovely ritual that involved making a blessing jar. The idea is to write down your blessings on small pieces of paper and drop them into the jar throughout the year and on New Years Eve, pour them all out and read through them, as a powerful reminder of what a blessed year we have had. I loved the idea and decided to do it! There were some days that all I could write was, “I am grateful to have made it through the day.” We’ve all had those days; however, I believe that everything is a learning experience, helping us to learn, grow, and evolve. I embraced those days with courage and the support of family and friends, knowing that the lesson I was learning was for my highest good. Some days, I found myself going to the jar 3 or 4 times, writing down blessings as they took place. This ritual of counting our blessings is a powerful one, to be sure. I’m excited to do the process of counting my blessings this evening and then decorating another jar for the new year.

In years past, I have made a list of those things that I wished to release and when I’m done, I toss it into the fireplace, as I release it all from my mind, body, and spirit. After that, I write the last page in my yearly journal and close the book on the last year. It has always been very powerful for me and represented the end of another chapter in my life and an excitement and wonder, for what the new year will bring.

As you reflect, remember to be gentle with yourself. Everyone has things they wish they had handled differently, but, if we have learned from those situations, then nothing is lost. In fact, we have gained more knowledge, and more wisdom, to assist us in the coming years. Many will let go of habits, start being more mindful of the food they eat, exercising, saving more money, volunteering, and the list goes on and on. A new year brings about a sense of wonder, excitement, and hope. It allows us to dream a new dream; to be a better person, to live the authentic life we were truly born to live. So, as you are winding down 2013, know that you have done the best you could with the tools you had to work with, just as others have done. Know that each day is a new opportunity to be born again, to start fresh, to truly be the person that you desire to be. As you let go of the old, you open up your mind, body, and spirit, to recieve the new! Start fresh, start anew, and know that you are loved, appreciated, and supported.

May you have a safe and happy New Years Eve and please remember, NEVER drink and drive, a life depends on it!

Many Bright Blessings and Much Gratitude!
