Do You Trust Yourself?

by Saundra Berry, C.Ht.

When it comes to making decisions, often we fail to trust our gut feelings. We call on our friends, family, and talk to co-workers, sometimes anyone that will listen, about a decision that we must make. We seemingly work through every answer, good, bad, or indifferent, weighing all the odds, in order to make a decision. We play out the scenarios in our mind, we go back and forth, and we still question what decision we need to make.

Why do you think we cannot trust your own judgment? If I was a betting woman, I would bet it has to do with past choices you have made that didn’t turn out as you had hoped. The truth is, we’ve all made decisions that we later wish we hadn’t. Perhaps it caused us pain or suffering in some way. However, for all of the decisions that we've made and maybe view as the "wrong" decision, we have gained wisdom through that decision, right?. Think about the worst decision you think you've ever, think of what you learned from it. There is ALWAYS something to be learned; good, bad, or indifferent. But no matter the lessons we've learned, some have learned not to trust themselves.

What I’ve noticed in some, if things go wrong, or not how they hoped, if they’ve taken council from others, they then have someone else to blame for their misfortune. I am a big believer in talking over big decisions with a trusted friend, but, I know that the ultimate decision must be my own. After all, I am the only one that has to live with the decision. Quite frankly, I don’t want to have the option of saying, “well, if I had done what I thought I should do, rather than what someone else said, I would be much better off.” Truth is, the big decisions that must be made, must be our own. We are the only ones, with the exception of the Universe and the Law of Attraction, that really know who we are at our core. As you know, what is good for someone else is not always what is best for us.

Trusting our own council, our inner guide, our higher self our inner wisdom, is important for our growth process. If we have made decisions that sent us down a path we had not planned on; perhaps that was the plan all the time. Perhaps there were lessons that must be learned and the only way was to lead us down a path we had not planned on in order to learn the lesson. As I have said before, the Universe and the Law of Attraction, is always listening. The Universe and the Law of Attraction, does not know the difference in positives or negatives, it only knows where it is we are placing our intention and attention. So, remember to always place your attention and intention on the best possible outcome, rather than what you “don’t” want.

The bottom line is that we always know the answer; we must learn to trust our own inner guide. We must embrace that we have been given a choice(s) and it is ours to make, regardless of the outcome, we have to make the final decision ourselves. Just as we hold the wisdom of our ancestors in our cells, we hold our own wisdom in our cells, as well. Know that you are adequately equipped to make any and all decisions in which you are faced. Know that as you are weighing out the pros and cons of your choices, you will have physical cues to let you know if that decision is good for you. You will feel a tightening or heaviness in your chest and/or throat if the decision is not the best for you. It is up to you to learn your own physical cues when making decisions and the more that you pay attention to those cues, the easier your decisions will be to make. Lao Tze said, “He who knows others is learned; he who knows himself is wise.” You are a wise and wonderful soul! You have everything you need inside of you. I believe that we are all stronger than we think we are! Embrace your own inner wisdom; focus on the best outcome for the highest good of all concerned and things will be okay. Everything is going to be okay. You ARE stronger than you think you are and you have the answer that you seek.

Here are some of my favorite quotes on wisdom:

"Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it"-Albert Einstein

“He who is not everyday conquering some fear has not learned the secret of life.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Follow your instincts. That's where true wisdom manifests itself.” Oprah Winfrey

“To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom.” Bertrand Russell

“The best way to predict the future is to create it.” Alan Kay

“As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Affirmation: I know the answer, I trust myself.

Many Blessings,
