Grounding Guided Imagery

by Saundra Berry, C.Ht.

Excerpt from my soon to be released book, “Healing at the Vortex, A Practical Guide to Balance and Maintain Your Chakras”

Have you ever experienced a moment when you just feel like you are bouncing off of the walls? Or have you found it difficult to make a decision because you keep wondering if you have forgotten something? Do you ever feel like you are having an out of body experience, while you are wide awake? If the answer is yes, perhaps the reason that you have been experiencing these situations or feelings is because you are not grounded in your body. It is easy to disconnect from life when we are feeling overwhelmed.

When we are grounded, we are present and in the moment, rather than feeling disconnected from the world around us, we feel a strong sense of well-being. We feel at ease, centered, grounded, and focused.

If you meditate, add this grounding imagery to your meditation along with the Relaxation Meditation and I assure you, you will feel better at every level.

This exercise will help you become more open and grounded. It will not only assist you in your day-to-day life but will open your mind, body, and spirit to the subtle energy of the earth.

Start by being in a quite location, free from interruption. Sitting or lying down, take a deep, healing, cleansing breath, and simply follow the steps I have provided for you. Whether you have done guided imagery before, is no matter. Until you have committed the guided imagery to memory you will simply read a few numbers in a row and then close your eyes and take the steps. Then you will open your eyes again, read, and follow a few more steps by closing your eyes and you will do this until you have completed the imagery.

  1. With eyes closed, take three deep healing, cleansing breaths.

  2. Allow your mind to become still-allowing thoughts to come and go, without fixating on any one thought.

  3. Visualize or imagine yourself standing outdoors, surrounded by trees. Pay attention to the trunks of the trees. Notice how strong and sturdy they appear. Notice that no matter how strong the wind, they only slightly sway to and fro while the trunk of the tree is steady and sturdy.

  4. Imagine that the upper part of your body, from the waist to the tips of your fingers are wide open.

  5. Now imagine your feet and legs are slowly beginning to grow deep roots into the ground.

  6. As you do this you will notice that you are now, strong and steady as your roots are growing deeper and deeper.

  7. Like the trees, you are open, free flowing, grounded, and centered.

  8. Allow this image to permeate your entire mind, body, and spirit. BE the tree.

  9. Take a moment to really “feel” this connection to the earth.

  10. Take a few deep breaths and you relax into this sense of knowing.

  11. Grounded, strong, sturdy, and open to receive the gifts that the Universe has to offer you.

  12. When you are ready, stretch your body and open your eyes. You are now focused, centered, open, and grounded.

Many Blessings,
